require the assent of the Board of Governors. 6. MORE PHONES IN THE HOUSES Ayyappa Vemulkar said that as there is only one phone in each house, parents find it difficult to talk to their sons. It was felt that too much contact with one’s parents would unsettle the school. Parents would be involved in the smallest matters. The proposal was thus rejected. 7. CURTAINS IN CLASSROOMS Pranavakshar Kapur felt that the screens in smart classrooms were not visible due to light from the windows. Thus he suggested that they be equipped with curtains. KPB said that he did not see a great problem in the smart classrooms. However, HMD and Tushaar said that some classrooms had a major problem. PKN said that he would do a survey and come back to the Council next term. 8. LIGHTS FOR TENNIS COURTS Mehul Mehrotra conveyed the need for lights in the new tennis courts. JHH agreed and said that the courts would eventually be provided with lights. KPB said that the school planned to provide for lights next year. 9. GENERATOR FOR SPORTS COMPLEX Ayyappa Vemulkar suggested that there should be a generator for the sports complex. JHH and DKS felt likewise. KPB noted that this suggestion could go to the Architecture and Projects Committee. 10. ANY OTHER BUSINESS i) Anant Kumar said that at least five boys who are sufficiently able to go on exchange should get a scholarship to enable them to do so. For some boys, the high cost is a reason for not applying. KPB felt that this was a good proposal and he would pursue it. ii) DKS was disappointed with the flow of water from the water cooler at Skinner’s. JHH also felt that the pressure and flow was too meagre. It was decided that the capacity of the water cooler will be increased. iii) Karm Chowdhury spoke about the injuries caused to some of the boys due to the glass panes in school. One of them was seriously injured. He reported that the glass can be broken by just pushing a door to open it. KPB expressed his concern and said that the matter would be looked into by the school engineering department. iv) It was also reported that the internet in the houses was very slow. JHH said that this was because of the use of messengers and games. The boys must be more responsible in using the facility. v) KPB said that the samples for the new games uniforms had come from the designer. A sub committee was to look at the samples and give its reactions. vi) KPB brought up the topic of the future of cross country in school. He felt that today cross country was basically a road run. Running on the road caused immense pressure on the back and legs at a very young age. It was also quite dangerous due to the traffic in the cantonment. PBR said that boys could be taken to another spot, in a bus. Another idea was that cross country could be run by doing several rounds of the campus. KPB thought that that would be too monotonous and would be impossible to monitor. vii) KPB also questioned the future of PT in school. He felt that the time used in doing PT could be put to better use. Boys could practice their individual or team sports, spend some extra time in toye or catch up on sleep. He felt that most PT squads after the PT competition were just going through the motions, particularly with senior boys. viii) KPB also raised the future of boxing in school. He said in the bouts fought by the juniors in the finals there was a dearth of technique and the fights turned into a slugging contest which did not honour boxing and which could be dangerous. He pointed out that in the U.S. and U.K. boxing was not permitted at the school level. The school had to look carefully at international best practices in this regard. The senior bouts were much better. A view was expressed that perhaps boxing could begin at the B form level. The school would consider the future of cross country, P.T., and boxing next year. ix) Aakash Maheshwari pointed out that the soap dispensers never functioned in the Main Building . He felt that their use should be discontinued if they didn’t work. JHH said that boys were misusing the facility. An idea, that next time a dispenser was broken, the cost would be equally divided and deducted from the boys pocket money. x) Gurbaaz Sidhu stated his annoyance with their not being phone numbers in the school list. KPB said that the purpose of the School list was not to provide phone numbers and addresses for the convenience of boys. Also it was done to prevent personal information from falling into wrong hands. No other business remaining, the meeting was adjourned. |
