(Contd. from Page 1)

DSW: What response have you got from the boys that you have taught?
ANJ: I think you should ask my boys! I think I'll talk about it some other time.
DSW: What impact do you think you will make on Doscos?
ANJ: I like to think that I support rather than have an impact on the boys. I think my job is like a support system, primarily for the students and also for the staff. Living in the school is also very good. I get to see the boys in different situations and under different conditions. I want to be as casual as possible with the boys and I would like to help anyone who came to me for help. I would also like to maintain confidentiality with those who do so.
DSW: What are your 'spare time activities'?
ANJ: I like listening to music on the World Space Radio. I also like biking and trekking. I love reading and I am always on the look-out for good, entertaining books.

Mansher Dhillon spoke to Skand Bali (SBL), Geography teacher and tutor, Hyderabad House

DSW: According to you, how is Doon different from other schools?
SBL: The most important and unique thing in Doon is the Dosco spirit. There are many naughty boys but they are all good at heart. I have spent time in other schools also. They usually lack this. It is like a bond that links the boys and makes them like members of a family. I would like to see this bond strengthen. Another thing that makes this school special is its culture. Doon has done a very good job in maintaining its traditions and at the same time, keeping pace with the changing times. It is, indeed, a very unique school.
DSW: Before coming here, you would have had some expectations of Doon. Does Doon meet up to your expectations?
SBL: Honestly speaking, when I first came to the school, I was a bit scared. I knew about the school and had visited it earlier. At the same time, I was quite at ease, as I had taught two boys who were here.
DSW: What do you like teaching most?
SBL: My favourite subject is Geography. I have done my Masters in it. There is a lot to be learnt about it in this vast world. It tells us about various places and the different aspects of the world.
DSW: Which subject do you think is most important?
SBL: I think that the most important subject is EVE. It deals with many problems that we are facing presently. It also helps the future generations. Other than this, I would say that sex education is the most important subject in school. It deals with many problems the youth of today face. The school has taken the right decision by introducing it.
DSW: Which feature of this school can be improved?
SBL: No place is perfect. The school has taken many steps already to improve the school in terms of food, teacher-student relationships, etc. I would like to see the school as one that strongly holds onto its past, lives in the present and is taking a step into the future.
DSW: Which is your favourite class?
SBL: I do not like any specific class. I like teaching. All classes are equal to me.
DSW: Is there anything that you would like to tell this school or any specific class you teach?
SBL: I would like to tell the classes I teach to enjoy the subject. If they want to sleep in my class, they should do it with their eyes open so that I think that they are listening to me and are interested! As for all those in my tutorial, I will give everything I can and shall hope for your betterment.
