Song No. 16

Charanaprante rakho sebake,
Shanti sadana sadhana dhana deba deba he
Sarba loka parama sharana,
Sakala moha kalusha harana,
Dukha tapa bighna tarana,
Shoka shanta snigdha charana,
Satya rupa prema rupa he,
Deba manujaja bandita pada bishwa bhupa he,
Hirdayananda purna indu,
tumi apar prem sindhu.
Jache trisata amia

-Rabindra Nath Tagore

Interpretation

Light, my light, the world feeling light, the eyekissing light, heart-sweetning light.
Ah, the light dances, my darling at the centre of my life; the light strikes at the chords of my love; the sky opens, the wind runs, wild laughter passes over the earth.
The butterflies spread their sails on the sea of light.
Lilies and jasmines surge the arest of the waves of light.
The light is shattered into gold on every cloud, and it scatters gems in profusions.
Mirth spreads from leaf to leaf and gladness without measure. The heaven's river has drowned its banks, and the flood of joy is abroad.
