Born in Dehra Dun in 1940, did his schooling in Welhams and Doon School before graduating from St. Stephen's College, Delhi in 1960. Joined Reckitt & Colman of India Limited as Management Trainee and after several assignments mainly in marketing, was appointed, Managing Director of the Company in 1974. Served as President of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Vice President of ASSOCHAM. Governing Council Member of Raphael Ryder Cheshire International Centre and founder member of the Doon Shelters Society of the Homeless.
