The conference commenced with an inspiring Opening Ceremony held at the BML Munjal Auditorium. Mr. Shishir Priyadarshi, a distinguished alumnus of The Doon School and an influential figure in international trade, graced the event as the chief guest. Mr. Priyadarshi, who has served as a Director at the World Trade Organization (WTO), shared his insights on the importance of diplomacy and global cooperation. His address resonated deeply with the young delegates, setting a motivational tone for the days to follow.

Following the opening ceremony, the Secretariat’s Dinner at Viceroy Grand provided a platform for delegates and organizers to interact informally, fostering camaraderie. Day 2 of the conference was particularly eventful, featuring the introduction of a Joint Crisis Committee for the first time in DSMUN history. This new addition was hailed as a resounding success by participants, who engaged in intense deliberations on global crises.

The conference reached its peak during the Headmaster’s Dinner and delegate dance, where delegates celebrated their shared experiences. The final day featured the Closing Ceremony, where Ms. Ruchira Kamboj, the first Indian woman diplomat to serve as Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations in New York, addressed the audience as the chief guest. With an illustrious career that includes being India’s Ambassador to Bhutan and UNESCO, Ms. Kamboj provided invaluable insights into leadership and diplomacy. Her words left a lasting impression on the 750 attendees, inspiring them to pursue excellence in their future endeavors.

The conference concluded with Welham Boys’ School being awarded the Best Delegation, a testament to their outstanding participation. DSMUN 2024 provided an exceptional platform for delegates to engage, learn, and grow, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

Thirteen students and two masters from The Doon School Adventure Club are gearing up for an exciting journey to the Everest Base Camp, reviving an activity after over 10 years. Starting on May 20th, this 15-day expedition covers 108 km on foot, trekking to a maximum altitude of 5644m (18500 ft). Participants will travel to iconic locations such as Lukla, Everest Base Camp, and Kalapatthar, experiencing the awe-inspiring majesty of Mt. Everest. This expedition sets a powerful example for future generations, renewing the spirit of adventure and mountaineering within the school community.

Purpose: Hands on workshop on DNA extraction , PCR amplification and Agrose gel electrophoresis.

To celebrate the National Science Day, as a part of activities planned for a week to create awareness, expose students to scientific temperament, a two day workshop was organized at the Wildlife Institute of India , Dehradun. 8 students currently pursuing biology at the S form level in ISC and IB curriculum along with 2 masters from the biology department attended the two day exhaustive workshop.

This workshop gave them the opportunity to work in India’s leading forensic lab for the animals and work along with scientists of that caliber. The hands on workshop gave them a detailed experience of the process which before this was only limited to the heavy text material that had to be visualized through videos and cram up before exams. The DNA extraction and observation of DNA bands from blood samples of three members attending the workshop gave students a life time experience.

The ethos of working in a scientific lab keeping in mind the resources and safety, the precision of measurement in the process used, the applications, the case studies as investigated by WII gave the students an opportunity to reflect on various aspects of biotechnology. The workshop also exposed them to this field as a career option. The students at the end were awarded a certificate for successfully completing the workshop. As stated by WII, The Doon School is the first school to have exposed the students to hands on workshop.

106 school teams participated in the event. Team R.A.V and team ALPHA RACING received appreciation from the jury. Team R.A.V comprising of Rana Sunjog Thind, Yashasvi Jain and Vansh Gandhi qualified for the Nationals by emerging as one of the top 10 teams of the event.

This competition was in collaboration with Formula 1 and students were supposed to design their scale model cars with the help of cnc routers, keeping in mind the drag friction and aero dynamics.

The competition started with scale model car races through nitrogen cyclinder and was followed by a verbal presentation of their design ,engineering, marketing strategy and social networking portfolios. Finally the teams had to create their car’s pit booth in a given time frame.

This was the second event of its kind in India.

55 delegates from The Doon School Dehradun, Lawrence School Sanawar, Lovedale Tamilnadu, Vivek High School Chandigarh, Emerald Heights Indore, Vidya Devi Jindal School Hisar, Daly College Indore, and Birla Public School Pilani participated with zeal to construct Community Centre. Students carried bricks, dug out mud built walls and washrooms. Sharing his experience Shreyan Mittal from The Doon School said –”We realized the value and dignity of physical labour”.

During the nine days project service students undertook exposure visits and obtained firsthand knowledge on the hardships faced by the rural folks. Siya Sabberwal sounded very conserned saying “How can we let our old people suffer in isolation? We must join hands to reduce migration. This project also organized a training workshop in collaboration with “Society of Pollution & Environmental Conservation Scientists, Dehradun” for the villagers of Dungri skilling them to make energy saving LED bulbs. Over eighty villagers made over 400 LED bulbs. The project co-ordinator Mr Ambikesh Shukla opined, “Such service project taps into the possibility and potential of young people solving the socio-economic problems of India”. Besides construction delegates will take over a cleanliness drive of the Idgad Stream, the only source of water for the village by taking out polythenes and non-degradable materials.

The Community Centre was inaugurated by Mr Prabhakaran Nair the Assistant Headmaster of The Doon School . Addressing the Dungri community on the occasion Mr Nair said-”For prosperous India it is important to connect the urban students with rural India so that our young minds become sensitive to the basic needs and problems”. On this occasion, 104 families of the village were distributed two LED bulbs each family to save electricity. Echoing the sentiments of the villagers towards this project Karishma Rawat a class X student from the village said “This service project has generated hope and confidence in the villagers about the development prospects of the village. We feel cared for.”

The expedition was undertaken in the first week of April and on 8th April the boys managed to traverse the pass.This period in the Garhwal Himalayas is infamous for its harsh snow conditions, frequent avalanches and treacherous snow storms. Having traversed the pass successfully, the team became the first recorded expedition to do so in such weather conditions.

The Bandarpoonch Massif has been witness to many mountaineering exploits undertaken by students of The Doon School. Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, the first man on Mt Everest, went so far as to call it the ‘Doon School Mountain’ in his autobiography.
The expedition was organised to commemorate an ex Dosco Major Narendra Dhar Jayal’s 60th Death Anniversary. Major Jayal was a pioneer in Indian Mountaineering, and is credited for being instrumental in establishing mountaineering as a professional sport in India. He was the founding principal of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling. He perished in 1958 while on an expedition to Cho Oyu, the sixth highest mountain in the world.

55 delegates from The Doon School Dehradun, Lawrence School Sanawar, Lovedale Tamilnadu, Vivek High School Chandigarh, Emerald Heights Indore, Vidya Devi Jindal School Hisar, Daly College Indore, and Birla Public School Pilani participated with zeal to construct Community Centre. Students carried bricks, dug out mud built walls and washrooms. Sharing his experience Shreyan Mittal from The Doon School said –”We realized the value and dignity of physical labour”.

During the nine days project service students undertook exposure visits and obtained firsthand knowledge on the hardships faced by the rural folks. Siya Sabberwal sounded very conserned saying “How can we let our old people suffer in isolation? We must join hands to reduce migration. This project also organized a training workshop in collaboration with “Society of Pollution & Environmental Conservation Scientists, Dehradun” for the villagers of Dungri skilling them to make energy saving LED bulbs. Over eighty villagers made over 400 LED bulbs. The project co-ordinator Mr Ambikesh Shukla opined, “Such service project taps into the possibility and potential of young people solving the socio-economic problems of India”. Besides construction delegates will take over a cleanliness drive of the Idgad Stream, the only source of water for the village by taking out polythenes and non-degradable materials.

The Community Centre was inaugurated by Mr Prabhakaran Nair the Assistant Headmaster of The Doon School . Addressing the Dungri community on the occasion Mr Nair said-”For prosperous India it is important to connect the urban students with rural India so that our young minds become sensitive to the basic needs and problems”. On this occasion, 104 families of the village were distributed two LED bulbs each family to save electricity. Echoing the sentiments of the villagers towards this project Karishma Rawat a class X student from the village said “This service project has generated hope and confidence in the villagers about the development prospects of the village. We feel cared for.”

The team of the teachers comprised of Mr Anand Kumar Mandhian, Mr Pankaj Das (The Doon School), Mr Tushar Guha (Daly College Indore), Mr Kumar Gautam (Lawrence School Sanawar), Mr Manoj Tiwari (Birla Public School Pilani), Mr Rachit (Lovedale Tamilnadu), Ms Deepti Singh Indore), Ms Suman (Vidya Devi Jindal Hisar) and Mr Amanat Bhullar (Vivek High School Chandigarh).

The expedition was undertaken in the first week of April and on 8th April the boys managed to traverse the pass.This period in the Garhwal Himalayas is infamous for its harsh snow conditions, frequent avalanches and treacherous snow storms. Having traversed the pass successfully, the team became the first recorded expedition to do so in such weather conditions.

The Bandarpoonch Massif has been witness to many mountaineering exploits undertaken by students of The Doon School. Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, the first man on Mt Everest, went so far as to call it the ‘Doon School Mountain’ in his autobiography.
The expedition was organised to commemorate an ex Dosco Major Narendra Dhar Jayal’s 60th Death Anniversary. Major Jayal was a pioneer in Indian Mountaineering, and is credited for being instrumental in establishing mountaineering as a professional sport in India. He was the founding principal of the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling. He perished in 1958 while on an expedition to Cho Oyu, the sixth highest mountain in the world.

The training programme included many adventure activities that excited the children and functionally obtained the goal of reaching the ideal of ‘fun-learning’. The children went for various activities like trekking, rock-climbing and a visit to the sulphur caves of Maldevta. It included a night trek and an early morning Heritage Walk and games based on teamwork, goal setting, and acquiring the attributes of a good leader.

During the leadership programme, a dramatics workshop was taken by Mr.Devendra Kumar Mishra and Mr. Manoj Pande in which the tactics of speaking in public and acting were taught to the participants. The Doon School boys Master Keshav and Master Aarav performed a brilliant piece of acting on Premchand’s sotry “Bade Bhaisaheb”. The bharatnatyam guru Veena Agarwal and her disciples staged a beautiful show “Beti Bachao & Beti Padao”  and “Ladli”  which was basically based on the campaign “Save girl child”. This programme was followed by a cultural evening where all participating schools presented a piece of cultural item like a play or a song or a dance based on the theme- Leadership.

On the last day, students were given a task “treasure hunt” which was completed by different groups of students by going to different places around Maldevta. The programme was concluded by certificate distribution ceremony in which students expressed their experiences on their learning during the programme. The programme was also addressed by Ms.Anez Katre, Mr. Ambikesh Shukla & Mr.Anand Kumar Mandhian.

The students had a lot to take away and mull over on their journey back to their respective schools.

The scope of activities is enormous ranging from support for the ill and the elderly to child care and the maintenance and rehabilitation of natural areas, to operation of life-saving or protective agencies.

The second day of the Doon School Founders Programme began with a book signing event with the Chief Guest for the event, Ramachandra Guha. An acclaimed writer, Mr Guha, an Old Boy of the School, talked to boys about his work and signed copies of his books. Simultaneously the school’s science department put up the annual exhibition. The school saw exhibits in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and IT. These exhibitions featured models of human organs, model experiments and other innovative ideas such as augmented reality. The IT exhibition also designed an app for the event, giving all guests updates on the events happening within the school andalsohelped them navigate the campus. The school also put up a social service exhibit, showcasing all the social work the school does. Further, the art exhibition was also put up, showcasing all the artistic work that had been done by the boys over the course of the year. The Doon School Boys also played a cricket match with the Old Boys team, competing for the R.L. Holdsworth trophy. The current boys of the School batted first and set a target of 144 in 25 overs for the Old Boys. The Old Boys fell short of the target and the current boys won the match. In the afternoon, a debate was organised between the senior-most batch (batch of 2018) within School and the Batch of 1992.

The topic of debate was: ‘This house believes in Seniority.’​  The debate was very close, with the current batch, side proposition, beating the batch of 1992.

In the evening, the main Founders Play, the English production was put up. The play is titled, ‘The Play that Goes Wrong’. The play saw excellent acting from Archit Barthwal, Bharat Chaudhary and Siddhant Shyam. It ​was very well received and marked the end of the second day of Founders.

The third day of the Doon School Founders Programme began with the Pagal Gymkhana organised by Tata House. An annual event the Gymkhana had several stalls and served to entertain all with fun games and excellent food. It also saw great dance and music performances by the students. The Gymkhana was followed by an interaction between the students and the Chief Guest, Ramachandra Guha. The students asked the Chief Guest questions about his life as a writer and also as an academic and intellectual living in India. This was followed by a picture of the staff and the entire SC form batch with the Chief Guest. The day ended with speeches from the Chief Guest, the Headmaster and the new chairman of the Board of Governors of the School, Mr. Sunil Munjal. The speeches were given in the Rose Bowl, in the presence of the Board of Governors, parents and all other members of the Doon School community. Mr. Munjal addressed talked about how as a school it is imperative that Doon embraces the changes that have occurred in the world. He thanked the outgoing chairman, Mr. Gautam Thapar for all his work and highlighted his vision for the School. He talked about what the Doon School means to him and what it stands for, one that aims to provide, as the first headmaster of the School said, an aristocracy of service. The Chief Guest’s speech revolved around his experience in School and his outlook of India as it stands today. He talked about he three pillars of Indian society: diversity, social depth and democracy. He lastly, talked about how school has improved since he was here and the changes he wants to see in school later. The Headmaster’s speech revolved around the changes that had been implemented in School. Talking about the change in curriculum, the establishment of new classes and the implementation of a new schedule, the headmaster outlined what the School has done to become better. The School Captain, Divij Mallick, talked about how the Dosco community has become a family for him and how it has shaped him.

The 5^th Young Entrepreneurs’ Conference was hosted by The Doon School on the 9^th of October 2017. Nine schools and 32 participants took part in the conference. The schools participating were The Doon School, The Shri Ram School Moulsari, Modern School, Delhi, Mayo College, Ajmer, Strawberry Fields High School, Chandigarh, Wynberg Allen School, Sela Qui International School, Welham Boys School and DPS Jalandhar. The conference comprised a board meeting simulation, a problem-solving competition and finally, a pitching competition. The judges for the pitching competition were Mr. Sanil Sachar, Mr. Pratham Mittal and Mr. Dalip Singh Kang.

Mr. Sanil Sachar is an entrepreneur and author. Mr​. ​Pratham Mittal is a Wharton Graduate and a Doon School alumnus. Mr. Dalip Singh Kang is the CEO of his company and an entrepreneur. Mr. Kang is also a Doon School alumnus.

The Doon School emerged victorious in the Effective Problem Solving Competition while DPS Jalandhar won the pitching competition. The overall runner-up for the conference was Strawberry Fields High School and the overall winner for the conference was Modern School, Delhi. The Conference was a ​resounding ​success​ and enjoyed by both the participants and the audience.​

The School hosted the 3rd RLSS Workshop from 8 to 10 September, 2017. This Workshop is the only one of its kind in North India, and saw participation from The Hopetown Girls’ School, Welham Girls’ School and The Doon School. It was conducted by Mrs Anez Katre and a group of student Life Guards: Tanay (H), Kushagra (K), Anish (J), Kanishkh (O) and Mehrab (K). Over the course of three days, the participants learnt various techniques required to save a victim from drowning. Moreover, they were also taught basic first-aid that is an essential life skill. The Workshop ended with an exhibition displaying various life saving techniques and competitive RLSS events, which are held every year at the RLSS Nationals.

The last day of the 11th  DOON SCHOOL MODEL UNITED NATIONS concluded this evening with Mr. Matthew Raggett  the chief guest telling the delegates that negotiation & collaboration skills employed by them over the past three days was a preparation for their future lives. Mr. Mohit Sinha the organizer, Divij Mullick and Deep Dhandhania the president and secretary general of the DSMUN respectively also addressed the gathering. Also present on the occasion were Mr. Philip Burret 2nd Master of the Doon School, Mr. P.K. Nair & Mr. Kamal Ahuja – Asst. Headmaster, Deputy Head Academics respectively & Mr. Piyush Malaviya, Director of Public Affairs of the Doon School. The conference as you know is the biggest high school MUN in India and probably South East Asia attended by about 400 odd student delegates from 32 schools across the country.

The last day i.e. today had some very interesting simulated crisis situations given below:

• In the General Assembly: North Korea launched a nuclear missile at Washington DC
• Other Committees: USA deployed nukes in Outer Space with the help of UAE
• Pakistan and China pushed troops into Kashmir following a withdrawal of the Indian Army

Lok Sabha committee:-

• Bomb blast at Jantar Mantar during LGBT pride parade
• Supreme Court declaring demonetization illegal, recalling all 2000 notes.

The results were as follows:

• Best delegation (large) – Mayo College Girls School
• Best delegation (small) – Mayo College, Ajmer
• Best delegation over all – Mayo College Girls School
• Best committee – All India Political Parties Meet

The first day of the 11^th prestigious was marked by the visit of the Congress Party Vice President: Rahul Gandhi. Various committees had the honour of having their proceedings observed and commented upon by the distinguished politician. After a long wait, the delegates finally had the honor of hearing the wit and wisdom filled speech, which was followed by an enriching question-answer session. The much-appreciated speech was filled with advice regarding diplomacy, challenges faced by young individuals and the hurdles that the world places for you. Mr. Gandhi used examples from his personal life, both political and personal to aptly educate the audience. Keeping in mind the nature of the conference, the most interesting remark that Mr. Gandhi made was his explanation about the nature of diplomacy. Through his rather practical approach of calling a member delegate on stage and conducting a visual experiment, Mr. Gandhi explained that diplomacy is an art of putting an idea into some else’s mind and using their strength to get your own work done. This, rather blunt and apt description of democracy won over the audience. Various issues, ranging from the GST, Gandhi-Nehru influence in the Congress, the future of Indian politics and the Chinese intrusion of Bhutan to life lessons and practical approach to democracy were discussed in the elevating question-answer session.

Ranvijay Singh and Stanzin D. Namgyal climbed Imja Tse (6189 meters asl) also known as Iceland peak and reachedthe peak at 8.30 am on May 9th, 2017.  Ranvijay was also a  member the Thar and Manali-Leh cycling expeditions.

This peak is situated in upper Khumbu Valley within Sagarmatha National Park. It was first climbed in 1953 by the famous British expedition team that went on to summit Mt. Everest for the first time in human history. Sherpa Tenzing Norgay was also one of the first to summit Iceland Peak.

Archit Barthwal and Aaryan Chabra won the Best delegate award. Ojas Kharbanda, Aayush Chawdhry and Devang Laddha won the Most outstanding Delegate award. Kalpit Sharma, Yuvan Jaidka, Zoravar Mehta and Shikhar Trivedi were given the Honourable Mention Award. Verbal commendation was also given to Arunav Vaish and Krishna Goyal.

Akshat Jha, currently studying in class 11 at The Doon School, Dehradun, made a short film, ‘Paakhand’, to depict the deteriorating sex ratio in India. His film was selected by the Madhya Pradesh government for a state level award. He was honoured by the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on  International Women’s day (8^th March 2017).

Paakhand aims to spread awareness about female foeticide and sex determination which is being practiced in many parts of India. The film has been named Paakhand as it showcases the hypocrisy prevalent in Indian society. On the one hand, we worship goddesses and on the other, we kill baby girls before they are even born.

The story revolves around a village woman, Bindiya, who recalls her struggle to give birth to her baby girl, Khushi. Her struggle starts when the sex of the child is revealed to the family through illegal procedures. She stands against the patriarchal mindset of her husband and his family. The film ends on a positive note where Bindiya succeeds in her battle against hypocrisy, and opens hundreds of eyes

The film delivers a strong message of gender equality and makes us aware of the importance of a girl in the world. Akshat’s film was a part of his 3-month film making course in the Asian Academy Of Film & Television, Noida. He aspires to become a film maker and wishes to portray his thoughts through visual story-telling.

Highlights of the event were talks by Dr. James Tanton, Mathematical Association of America, USA and Dr. Inder K. Rana, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.

A research paper was presented by Tejit Pabari on Mathematics In one View, is the Science of Infinity.

The students engaged with all participants from various schools and their exposure to the level of mathematics at the senior level was an insightful learning experience. Exploring dots was a new method of using basic mathematical operations which could be extended to higher-order calculus and infinite series.
