The 12th Uttarakhand State Squash Championship Tournament held at Haridwar from 13th- 14th February 2016. The school were the runners up in the boys’ school category. Ishita Bhardwaj and Mayank Sojatia secured third position in the women’s and men’s open categories.

Cricket Results

The first fixtures of the season say the 1XI and U15 team play Kasiga School on 15th February 2016. The 1XI won by eight wickets with Siddharth Jain taking five wickets and Viksit Verma took three wickets. The U15 team won by one hundred and twenty-three runs. On 21st February the 1XI team played Coach’s 11 and lost by one hundred runs and the U15 team played the Sports College, Derhadun. The latter lost by fifteen runs.

On 28th February 2016, the Junior team played against Little Masters Academy and won by one wicket in a nail biting finish. Manan Agarwal scored 35 not out and took two wickets and Dhanvi Shukla scored twenty one runs.

The school junior cricket team played a match against Indian Public School on Wednesday 29th April in a tournament currently being held at Cambrian Hall. The School junior cricket Team scored 150 runs in 20 overs. The Indian Public School scored 90 and were all out in 17 overs. The school team won the match by 60 runs. Aditya Vikram Singh scored 51 runs. Paras Gupta took 5 wickets. Credible performances were given by Dhairya Rastogi and Shiwen Diwan.

The school junior cricket team played a match against Moradabad Public school on Friday 1st May in a tournament currently being held at Cambrian Hall. The school junior cricket team scored 128 runs in 20 overs. Moradabad Public school scored 113 runs and the school won the match by 15 runs.

Anuman Goel scored 35 runs. Credible performances were given by Dhairya Rastogi and Ravshan singh Mangat . The school junior cricket team has reached in quarter final by winning all the matches in their group and will play the quarter final match on 6th May.

The School Cricket team was chasing a target of 218 in 30 overs. The School Team managed a score of 173 , hence lost the match by 44 runs. Angad Shergil scored 55 runs. Akhil Ranjan scored 40 runs and took 2 wickets and was also adjudged man of the match.

The senior team won the match by six wickets. Congratulations to Akhil Ranjan who scored 33 runs and Kabir Kohar who took 3 wickets. In the medium school team won the match by 9 wickets.

The matches were played in the group stages.

The Doon School played against the Modern School, Delhi. Modern batted first and set a target of 250 in 25 overs. The first X1 was able to score 129 runs. The team lost the match by 121 runs.

In the second match the first X1 school team played against the Scindia School. The school team batted first and scored 123 runs. Scindia school chased the target with 7 wicket to spare.

In the last match the school team played against YPS Mohali. The school team batted first and gave a target of 127 runs. YPS Mohali won the match by 8 wickets.

The Doon School Cricket team did not proceed to the next round of the tournament and thus were knocked out in the group stages of the tournament.

First X1 plays Pilibhit

The school cricket team played a match against Pilibhit on Sunday, 22nd February. The school team was chasing a score of 200 in 35 overs but fell short by 12 runs. Akhil Ranjan scored 64 runs and took 4 wickets. Aryaman Panwar provided elegant and disciplined bowling while Ajatshatru Singh and Sikander Suri contributed through their aggressive batting.

The medium team( U15) also won their match with Divij Kapoor scoring 79 runs.

The Doon School Junior Cricket team played a match against The Kasiga School on Sunday 15th of February 2015. Kasiga School batted first and were all out for 80 runs. Viksit Verma, Aaditya Gupta and Anish Bhide took 2 wickets each . Aditya Vikram Singh made 30 runs and was not out. The Doon School won the match by 5 wickets with 6 overs remaining.

The school welcomed eighty boys to the second MCC pre-season cricket training in preparation for the school season. Boys came from all over India including Pune and Indore as well as those who are prospective candidates for The Doon School’s entrance examination in 2015. The intense preparation saw the boys improving their skill and their fitness and benefit from the school’s Pitch Vision technology, the first of its kind in a school in India. Feedback from the parents included:

‘This was indeed a great experience for Ishaan and he thoroughly enjoyed it.’

‘At the onset we appreciate The Doon School undertaking to offer such a compact training programme. The timing was perfect. Our son Arjun Singh Bajwa had already geared me up and I had installed a bowling machine and a pitch for him at home with all the gear. Being an unseasoned player, he was swinging his bat in the preparation for the training session.

As part of the MCC Cricket Training, we kept a close watch on his enthusiasm. One evening we met him totally drenched after his session. The game must go on. I know from my soccer sessions in school, we played like crazy during the rainy season and in the hills in Nanital, it rained almost every day.

The fact that a group was involved in a mentoring approach, was a big takeaway. The fact that the boys played from morning to evening was bigger takeaway. No sport extends through the day like cricket’.

Feedback from the boys included:

Pradyut: ‘My favourite part of the course was the fielding drill because it was really interesting and it has really improved my fielding. Pitch Vision was really helpful because I could see the mistakes I’m making and correct them.’

Paras: ‘I learnt that fielding is a essential part of cricket which I never took seriously. The tournaments were the best part of the camp.

Pitch Vision improved my bowling action which I taught was right and it gave me my accurate speed’.

The second inter zonal cricket tournament for the blind was played from 19th June to 22nd June. Four teams took part in the team India Red, India Blue, India Yellow and India Green. Players from all over India came to participate in the tournament and the trophy was won by the Red India team. Chief Guest for the occasion was the Assistant Headmaster, Mr PK Nair.

The school team lost the match by 4 wickets but Kabir Sethi, from Hyderabad House and the school cricket captain opened the batting with Brian Lara, which for any player was a once in a life time opportunity. Brian Lara scored 69 and Kabir Sethi scored 36 not out and took 2 wickets. Kabir was awarded ‘Man of the Match’.

The winners were YPS Patiala who won the match by 9 wickets.

Highlights in the league rounds included: Prince Balwant Rai from YPS Patiala who scored 114 runs & Sartaj who scored 52 runs. Ashwin from The Doon School scored 75 runs against Sanawar School. Arbaaz from YPS Mohali took six wickets against PPS, Nabha.

Prince Balwant scored 70* runs in the final.The School will be adding this to the annual cricket fixture list.
