In 2001, the School inaugurated a new Music School, with modern and updated spaces and facilities, which dramatically increased the interest in things musical at Doon.
The Music School offers training in vocal, tabla, sitar, sarod, flute, drums,guitar, violin and piano.
Many of these instruments are played by the boys at Assembly every morning.
The addition of western classical and popular music have been enthusiastically received by the students.
In April 2001, 2002 and 2005, the School Choir and Orchestra toured Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi and Dubai. They performed at the Nehru Planetarium and the Academy of Music, Vasant Valley School and The Modern High School.
The money that was raised was given to local charity, social service projects, earthquake relief operations, for Tsunami relief work and refurbishing school facilities.

Superb Trinity Board Music Examination Results
With the largest number of boys ever sitting the Trinity Board Music Examinations with the highest marks, the Music School is celebrating its growing musical reputation. No boy achieved less than a high Merit or Distinction and particular congratulations must go to Sumit Sehgal, who has passed Grade 5 with Merit and Yuv Vir Khosla who passed Grade 6 piano with Merit. Yuv has also been appointed School Captain for 2012.
Vikram Seth, a guest on iconic BBC’s Desert Island Discs
The iconic BBC Radio Four programme Desert Island Discs celebrates its seventh birthday. Well known figures from all walks of life across the globe have been chosen to nominate their eight favourite discs. Vikram Seth, Old Boy and well known author of such works as A Suitable Boy now lives in the UK and India.
Jesus Christ Superstar: The rock opera that rocked!
The Rose Bowl was the venue for this year’s Founder’s major performance. Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Tim Rice’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar opened on Broadway, just over thirty years ago. This exciting, but challenging rock opera was performed for three nights including a schools’ performance. A moving interpretation was given by Karan Singh as Jesus and the orchestra and choir (with many boys in D, C and B form) were conducted by the Director of Music, Mrs Chaturvedi. The musical was directed by Arjun Rao. All three performances were given a standing ovation. The school looks forward to more musicals productions in the future.

Music Society Programme, Spring term 2011
Ex-School Captain for 2009 and Oberoi House alumnus Sriyash Kishorepuria, came back to school to give a piano recitial in May. Sriyash is currently studying at the Conservatoire in Singapore and attained top marks in the Grade 7 and 8 Trinity Board Music Examinations. Sryiash, who hails from Calcutta, also had the chance to catch up with his younger brother, who is now at Doon.
The Music Society’s programme has also included:
- A Summer Concert of Music and Dance
- The Battle of the Bands Concert
- A classical Indian recital by two members of the music staff, Mr Partho Roy Chaudury and Mr Avijit Chattopadhyay, who chose to play a beautiful and inspiring Raga Durga in the Rose Bowl.
- A concert of flute and tabla conducted by Brazilian musician Ze Azavedo Kholi.
