Fostering Intercultural Understanding and Global Citizenship

The Doon School, in collaboration with Groton School, Massachusetts, and Welham Girls’ School, Dehradun, proudly co-hosted the G-PIE (Groton Program for Intercultural Exchange) Conference 2025 from June 22 to 27, 2025.

This landmark international event brought together 42 students and educators from 10 leading schools across Rwanda, Bhutan, China, the United States, England, and India. The week-long conference was designed to promote intercultural understanding, collaboration, and global citizenship through immersive workshops, dialogues, and experiential learning.

Participants engaged in interdisciplinary sessions exploring themes of identity, community, and global interconnectedness. Activities included idea-sharing workshops, culinary and art sessions, river ecosystem studies, and cultural immersions along the banks of the Ganga — each experience deepening their appreciation of diverse perspectives and shared humanity.

The conference culminated on June 27 with a reflective closing ceremony marked by warmth, laughter, and friendship. Delegates presented their advisory group projects creatively across various media, while students shared their week-long learnings through heartfelt ‘story circles’.

As the curtains drew on this enriching exchange, participants departed with new insights, friendships, and a renewed commitment to building bridges across cultures — embodying the very spirit of the G-PIE initiative.

The Doon School Hosts BSAI AGM 2025 – Bringing Together Leaders in Residential Schooling

The Doon School hosted the Annual General Meeting of the Boarding Schools’ Association of India (BSAI) from 5th to 7th July 2025, culminating in the formal AGM proceedings held on 7th July. The event brought together heads of schools and representative members from 42 leading boarding and day-cum-boarding schools across India.

The gathering began with a visit to Kasiga School, where delegates toured the campus and were welcomed with an inaugural dinner that set the tone for the days ahead.

The following day, the conference opened at The Doon School with a welcome address by Dr. Jagpreet Singh, Headmaster, who emphasised the need for collaboration, shared learning, and agility in educational leadership. Dr. Sumer Singh, President of BSAI, shared the association’s strategic vision, while Secretary Mr. Rashid Sharfuddin, Headmaster of Kasiga School, acknowledged the commitment of participating schools and expressed gratitude to the host institution.

A compelling keynote was delivered by Shantum Seth, alumnus of The Doon School and co-founder of the Ahimsa Trust, who spoke on embedding mindfulness and empathy into leadership and pedagogy.

As part of the immersive experience, delegates also toured the campuses of The Doon School and Unison World School, with Welham Boys’ School hosting an evening campus visit and dinner.

The AGM proceedings were formally conducted on the final day, marking a meaningful conclusion to a gathering that provided a critical forum for driving innovation, excellence, and sustainable leadership across India’s residential school network.

The 8th edition of the Inter School Sigma Mathematics Competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 18 schools across the country.

The competition was conducted in three engaging rounds:

• ⁠Preliminary Round
• ⁠Roller Coaster Round
• ⁠Tangram Activity

The top four teams from these rounds qualified for the Final Quiz, while the fifth team earned their spot through a Wild Card Entry round, adding a thrilling twist to the contest.

In a highly competitive and intellectually stimulating final quiz, Vasant Valley School, Delhi emerged as the Champion, while Shiv Nadar School, Gurugram secured the Runner-up position.

Alpha 2025: A Celebration of Scientific Spirit – Curiosity, Logic, and Discovery

The Doon School proudly hosted the 6th edition of the Inter-School Science Competition – Alpha, an event that brought together 11 schools from across India for two days of dynamic scientific exploration and collaborative problem-solving.

Designed to challenge and inspire, Alpha 2025 featured three intellectually stimulating rounds:

• ⁠ ⁠Engineering Challenge
• ⁠ ⁠Clue Hunt
• ⁠ ⁠Physics Fight

Alpha 2025 unfolded as a celebration of experiential learning where questions sparked designs, and insight met ingenuity. From buoyancy experiments and refractive puzzles to kinetic egg-drop vehicles, students from across India brought science alive with wit, logic, and collaborative energy.

The Physics Fight saw rigorous debates and creative analogies, while the Engineering Challenge tested design under pressure. The Clue Hunt turned chemistry into a cerebral chase, culminating in a 1-2 finish by The Doon School teams. In the final Physics Fight, Vasant Valley School triumphed over Welham Boys’ School with clarity and growth in their argumentation.

The event concluded with an address by Mr. Anand Kumar Mandhian, Head of the Science Department, who welcomed the Chief Guest Dr. Vineet Gahalaut, Director of the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, and highlighted the importance of STEM initiatives under the NEST Society. Dr. Gahalaut urged students to pursue curiosity if they aspire to do research, while Dr. Jagpreet Singh, Headmaster of The Doon School, reaffirmed the School’s enduring commitment to scientific pursuit.

Alpha Secretary Krish Agarwal extended heartfelt thanks to all participants, mentors, and guests during the closing ceremony.

Vasant Valley School claimed the overall Winner’s Trophy, with Wynberg Allen School as Runner-up. Alpha 2025 wasn’t just a competition, it was a tribute to curiosity, collaboration, and creativity in science.

The 12th edition of the Young Entrepreneurs’ Conference brought together 220+ delegates from 20 schools across India, transforming journeys with ideas, lessons, and connections.

From pitching ventures and decoding markets to navigating crises across six committees, students demonstrated creativity, composure, and critical thinking.

Chief Guest Mr. Prithvi Raj Tejavath urged students to develop grit, build safety nets, and not to wait for the perfect idea to start their entrepreneurial journey.

The 18th edition of The Doon School Model United Nations (DSMUN) Conference 2025 concluded on 18th August with a memorable Closing Ceremony, marking the end of three days of intense debate, diplomacy, and dialogue.

The ceremony was graced by Mr Amitabh Kant, retired IAS officer of the 1980 batch, former Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog, and India’s G20 Sherpa (2022–2025). In his address, Mr Kant drew on his vast administrative and diplomatic experience to inspire delegates, emphasizing the enduring role of diplomacy as a cornerstone of reconciliation and progress in a fractured world.

The afternoon celebrated the achievements of the conference with the announcement of the top awards:

• ⁠Best Delegation: Welham Boys’ School, Dehradun
• ⁠Best Small Committee: The Nanjing Crisis Committee
• ⁠Best Big Committee: Lok Sabha

The ceremony ended on a high note with the traditional Motions of Entertainment (MoE), bringing laughter and relief after days of rigorous committee sessions.

DSMUN 2025 concluded not only as a conference but as a demonstration of leadership, conviction, and youthful vision.

The Doon School hosted the Quiz 2025, witnessing participation from 17 schools across the country. The quiz was conducted by Mr. Ajay Poonia, the Quiz Master, adding his expertise to the event.

After the preliminary and qualifiers round, the top six teams advanced to the finals. In the finals, the stage was set for a gripping contest among Sunbeam School Lehartara, Vasant Valley School, Emerald Heights International School, Doon International School, The Doon School (Foot), and Scindia School.

Vasant Valley School emerged as the winner of The Doon School Quiz 2025, followed by Sunbeam School Lehartara as the first runners-up and Scindia School as the second runners-up.

The event was a true celebration of wit, knowledge, and quick thinking!

The 8th Junior English Debating Invitational (JEDI) was hosted this year with the participation of 22 schools from across the country. The competition brought together talented young debaters who showcased their skills in reasoning, articulation, and persuasive argumentation across multiple rounds.

After a series of closely contested debates, the finals were held between The Doon School and Neerja Modi School. Both teams engaged in a high-quality exchange of ideas, impressing the judges with their clarity and conviction.

In the end, Neerja Modi School was declared the winner of the 8th JEDI, with The Doon School finishing as the runner-up. The event successfully highlighted the spirit of dialogue, intellectual growth, and excellence in debating among students.

Schools from across the nation came together for two days of powerful arguments, insightful perspectives, and thought-provoking deliberations.

Demonstrating exceptional oratory and critical thinking, The Doon School team, Arnav Tiwari, Vedant Mangal, and Harsh Agarwal, emerged as the winners of the competition.

Established in 1989 by Mr. Amar Nath Dar, a former English Master at The Doon School, the competition was named in honour of his parents, Mrs. Kamla Dar and Mr. Jiwan Dar, to immortalize their values and contributions. For over three and a half decades, this legacy has stood as a beacon of intellectual excellence and principled discourse.

In his closing remarks, the Headmaster inspired the young debaters, urging them to embrace loyalty and truth in every walk of life. Drawing lessons from iconic leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, he reminded students that the courage to speak the truth, no matter the circumstance, defines true character and leadership.

Congratulations to all the participating schools for their spirited performances and commitment to the art of debate.

The Doon School hosted the 68th Annual Chuckerbutty Memorial Debates between 28th and 30th of August this year. Twenty schools from across the country participated in this debating gala, which is one of the most prestigious school-level debating competitions run in the WSDC format.

After four preliminary rounds, four quarter finals and two semifinals, the two most promising teams qualified for the grand final which evidently sought to offer discourse on contemporary issues and personal dilemmas when challenged on the anvil of intention vs consequences.

The Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai, secured the winner’s trophy, with The Emerald Heights International School, Indore, attaining the position of runner-up.

This event served as a gateway to world-class higher education, offering students unparalleled exposure to diverse academic programs, expert insights, and global opportunities.

From career planning and scholarship guidance to understanding admission requirements, the fair empowered Doscos and other invited schools students to make informed choices for their future.

The Doon School’s Department of Wellbeing Counselling hosted a powerful workshop on “Community – Harnessing Collective Power to Support and Promote Mental Health.” The conference encouraged students to reflect on the importance of community building, resilience, and solution-oriented thinking to tackle issues like peer bullying, hyper competitiveness, societal pressure, and mental health stigma.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Saurabh Mehrotra, Director of Mental Health at Medanta – The Medicity, shared insights on teenage brain development, healthy lifestyle choices, and the African philosophy of Ubuntu – “I am because we are.”

Wellness coach Mr. Prabhsharan Mamik engaged students with breathwork and meditation practices to enhance focus, calm, and emotional well-being.

The Doon School hosted the 68th Annual Chuckerbutty Memorial Debates between the 28th and 30th of August, 2025, and the 36th Kamla Jeevan Inter-School Hindi Debates on the 28th and 29th of August.

The Chuckerbutty Memorial Debates were held in the World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC) format, with twenty schools from across India participating. After several engaging rounds, The Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai, won the competition, while The Emerald Heights International School, Indore, finished as runner-up.

At the same time, the Kamla Jeevan Inter-School Hindi Debates brought together schools from different parts of the country. Instituted in 1989 by Mr. Amar Nath Dar, a former English Master at The Doon School, in memory of his parents, Mrs. Kamla Dar and Mr. Jiwan Dar, the event continues to uphold their values of truth and sincerity. The Doon School team—Arnav Tiwari, Vedant Mangal, and Harsh Agarwal—won the competition this year.
