The Doon School defeated Shri Ram School Gurugram in a hotly contested debate in the finals of the annual Chukerbutty Debates held at The Doon School. This was the diamond jubilee year of the debates which were started in memory of Nabendu Chukerbutty, an erstwhile teacher of the school. The quality of the debates by the participants was very impressive and in keeping with the special occasion of the event.

The motion for the final debate was “This house believes that humanity has out grown the nation state.” The session lasted for over an hour and both the finalist teams argued commendably. The debate was judged by a panel of judges from various fields and the prizes were awarded by the Headmaster Matthew Raggett. Later, the trophy was handed over to the visiting team following an old tradition that stipulated that the hosts, if they won, honoured the visitors by giving them the trophy.

This marked the end of a long week of intense debating with both the Ist junior English Debating Competition (JEDI) and the 60th Chukerbutty Debate being held.
