Academics
The Doon School maintains a teacher-student ratio of 1:8 and average class sizes of around 25 in junior classes, reducing at senior levels. The curriculum at The Doon School encompasses a broad range of subjects based on the principle of progressive and increasing choice. Students are encouraged to keep their choices broad. Classes VII and VIII follow The Doon School curriculum designed by the school to build strong foundations in core subjects, critical thinking, and communication skills. Classes IX and X prepare students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination. In grade XI, students may choose between the ISC or the International Baccalaureate (IB).
Every student is supported by a tutor from the first year onwards, alongside their Housemaster and Assistant Housemaster, who monitor both academic and pastoral development. Academic overview is provided by the ICSE, ISC, and IB Coordinators, the Middle School coordinator, the Dean of Academics, and the Deputy Headmaster who report directly to the Headmaster. Reports are termly and sent to parents in addition to face-to-face contact through parent-teacher meetings, held each term. Students are assessed during the half-yearly and promotional trials, along with formative assessments. Parents are welcome to discuss their ward’s progress with individual teachers, Housemasters, Heads of Departments, Dean of Academics and Deputy Headmaster throughout the year by appointment.
The academic programme is led by the Dean of Academics and the Deputy Headmaster, who work closely with the Headmaster.
