About Us

Located at the foothills of the Himalayas, The Doon School is India’s most prestigious all-boys’ boarding institution. Founded in 1935 by Satish Ranjan Das, the School’s 70-acre campus is rooted in a 90-year legacy of history, tradition, and visionary education. Built on the grounds of India’s original Forestry Research Institute and endearingly referred to as Chandbagh by our community, the school enjoys one of the most breathtaking campuses in the country.

Ethos

“Truly, we mean that the boys should leave The Doon School as members of an aristocracy, but it must be an aristocracy of service inspired by the ideals of unselfishness, not one of privilege, wealth or position”

– Arthur Foot (Headmaster, at the official opening of the school in 1935)

From its inception, The Doon School was envisioned as a cornerstone of a legacy that values humility and responsibility. The aristocracy of service lies at the core of Doon’s guiding ethos – one that instills the ideals of leading with humility, listening with empathy, and acting with purpose in the day-to-day lives of our students. This ethos shapes generations of future leaders and notable alumni around the world.

A Legacy of Excellence

As India’s premier all-boys’ boarding institution, The Doon School’s motto ‘Knowledge our Light’ embodies a transformative educational philosophy that has shaped generations of leaders, thinkers, and changemakers. Our students carry forward a legacy of excellence and principled leadership. As they leave our campus, our students embody the values of service and responsibility that have defined The Doon School for nearly a century, continuing an enduring tradition of educational excellence.

The school has one of the strongest, close-knit alumni networks in the world. The school has been at the forefront of shaping the most distinguished leaders across politics, business, science, media, the arts, and bureaucracy around the world.
