The Astronomy and NEST Societies organized an eclipse viewing event on the eve of the Super Blue Blood Moon. This was accompanied by a workshop and a space quiz, along with astrophotography. This was truly a one-of-a-kind event which saw the participation of more than 300 students across all batches.

Doon boys present research papers at International Science conference.

On Saturday, 3rd February 2018, Aayush Chowdhry and Tarush Bansal attended the ‘International Conference on Innovative Research in Mechanical, Material, Industrial, Automotive, Aeronautical, and Nano Technology’ and presented their research papers titled “Effect of hole size on drainage time of bottles” and “Effective density of crushed paper balls” at the Jawaharlal Nehru University Convention Centre. The potential applications of polymer nanoelectronics and the energy and energy analysis of coal based power plants were some of the interesting topics discussed at the conference. Their papers were also published in the Journal of Material Science and Mechanical Engineering.

Project Lit up

Yashmit Sutodia and Ayush Chaudhary of Jaipur House, took up the challenge to raise funds and make LED bulbs to light up villages houses with efficient sources of power under their project ‘Lit Up’.

Six more junior students of grade 8, Arnav Chaudhary, Arav Dixit, Imon Chatterjee, Vinayak Gupta, Abhisar Sudhaakar and Rajveer Machere helped Yashmit and Aayush to realise the challenge in making the bulbs. The boys also motivated Welham Girls School to join the project and many students from Welham Girls made LED bulbs and contributed to the project.

On Sunday 28th Jan’18 Ayush and Yashmit along with their team went to Than Gaon and distributed LED lamps to seven villages under Misras Patti Gram Sabha in Vikasnagar tehsil.

Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition

A team of 9 students comprising Mahip Agarwal, Shivendra Singh, Raghav Grover, Vansh Gandhi, Srijan Agarwal, Aneesh Agarwal, Arjun Agarwal, Pratham Bansal and Shantam Gilra, participated in the 14th Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition, after winning the Indian Nationals in October last year. The team emerged as the runner-up of the competition, with Raghav Grover and Shivendra Singh as ‘Vice-Presidents’ of a group of 5 teams and Mahip Agarwal as the Director of Operations.

Doon School boy participates in International Earth Science Olympiad in France

The International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO), one of the thirteen International Science Olympiads, is an annual competition for secondary school students that test their abilities in disciplines such as geology, meteorology, environmental science, and terrestrial astronomy. Advait Ganapathy topped the country after two rounds of examinations in Chennai and was selected for the International Olympiad being held now at Nice, France. He was given the proud responsibility to be the national flag bearer at the inaugural ceremony.

Doon School boy to represent the country at the Earth Science Olympiad

Advait Ganapthy qualified for the International stage of the Earth Science Olympiad to be held in Nice, France. A camp was organised at Anna University (also known as Guindy college of engineering) in Chennai over a period of 20 days. Each day had a rigorous schedule of over 10 hours of lectures delivered by eminent earth science professors around the country. The lectures varied from one on Atmospheric Physics delivered by Dr Som Kumar Sharma from PRL Ahmedabad to another on Magma formation by Dr Raymond Duraiswamy from Pune University.

Lecturers had come from various parts of the country such as Kashmir, Kutcch, Pune , Mumbai and Pondicherry. Topics covered were petrology, geomorphology, astronomy, environmental sciences and various other components of earth sciences. There were also field trips to Mahabalipuram in which various geological methods were learnt such as finding the strike and dip of the terrain. Rock and mineral identification were also important aspects of the practical examination,

At the end of the camp there was a theory and practical paper in which he stood first and has been selected to represent the country in France this August. The exam was a huge achievement for Advait who feels that the interdisciplinary nature of Earth Science has allowed him to combine Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Math and apply them together.

12th International Student Science Conference Ends

The 12th International Student Science Conference this year hosted by The Doon School between the 25th to the 28th of October 2016 was a huge success. This year the theme of the conference was “Sustainable Development”.

The five days of conferences proceedings had three major focus areas based around the central theme of Sustainable Development: The first being the presentation of work done by the students of various countries. The second being keynote addresses being given by experts belonging to different areas of scientific work and the third being various field visits. In the paper presentations students from different participating schools got an opportunity to share their findings with the participants of the conference. Each paper presented was deliberated upon with several perceptive questions being raised.

Several eminent keynote speakers addressed the students over the duration of the conference. Dr.Bivash Pandav, from the Wildlife Institute of India spoke about Tiger and Leopard conservation. Dr. P.C. Banerji, a physician by profession and a bird enthusiast by passion, involved all the participants in bird identification and conservation through his interactive talks. Mr. Biju Negi, a well-known seed conservator and the visionary behind the “Beej Bachao Andolan” sensitized the participants about the important role both farming and the farmers play in our society. He very lucidly explained the entire movement of saving the seeds and its significance in promoting sustainable agriculture.

Other speakers included Ms. Manu Mehta, a Scientist at of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Department and Dr. Brij Mohan Sharma a member of the Society of Pollution & Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS).

The delegates of the conference also had an opportunity to go on field visits. They visited the ‘Navdanya Farms’ an organic farm which is not just an initiative but a movement towards organic farming. The students during the visit also got an opportunity to interact with Dr. Vandana Shiva, an eminent environmentalist behind the movement promoting sustainable agriculture who reiterated the importance of sustainable agriculture without the use of chemicals. The conference participants were amazed by the various methods adopted at the farm to make ‘Organic’ a way of life. The visit to the seed bank was the highlight of the trip followed by the unique experience of working in the fields and feeling one with the nature. They participants also visited UCOST where Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, Director General of Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology (UCOST), Dehradun, was especially present to interact, motivate the young scientists from all across the globe and to distribute certificates for the “LED Bulb Assembling and Repairing Workshop”.

Apart from all the academic pursuits the participants of the conference also had an opportunity to have some fun and get a glimpse of the spiritual and cultural life of India. The participants white water rafted at Rishikesh and attended the evening Aarti at Parmarth Nikaten. They were also enthralled by melodies of Hindustani Classical Music with a scintillating performance on the Santoor and Table by Mr. Partho Roy Choudhary and Mr. Avijit Chattopadhyay, both masters at The Doon School.

The Doon School has organised the International Student Science Conference (ISSC) 2016 at its campus from 24th – 29th October 2016. The general theme of the conference is ‘sustainable development’. Sixty eight delegates from the following schools are participating in the conference:

Among these are Dr. Bivash Pandav from the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun whose expertise is Tiger conservation and the conservation of the Olive Ridley sea turtle. Mr. Biju Negi, Writer-Editor, Researcher, Development Consultant, Documentation Specialist and an Activist, for over 30 years who has worked at the local, national and international levels. Ms. Manu Mehta, from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun which is a branch of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) whose expertise is Atmospheric parameter retrieval and Time series analysis. Dr. P. C. Banerji is an amateur Bird Enthusiast who will give a talk on Birds of Doon Valley and Dr. Brij Mohan Sharma of the Society of Pollution & Environmental Conservation Scientists (SPECS, whose pioneering works include science popularisation, conservation of energy and water purification

‘Common Birds of Chandbagh, a book with detailed information about several birds inhabiting the verdant campus of The Doon School was released by the Headmaster Matthew Raggett at the inaugural ceremony.

Doon School Boy in Google Science Fair Top 100 List

Tejit Pabari, a class 12 student of The Doon School, recently published an original research paper titled “A Study on the Solar Illumination provided by a Water Bottle” in an International Peer-Reviewed Open-Access Journal called – Journal of Basic and Applied Engineering Research (JBAER). He presented his paper at the International Conference On “Natural/Applied Sciences, Environmental Engineering and Clean Energy Technologies for Sustainable Development” (SYNERGY-2016)” at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

He studied the efficiency of a water bottle attached to a rooftop in scattering light inside the house. His study proves that the ‘Litre Of Light’ bottle (as it is famously known) is a better option than just covering a hole in the ceiling with a glass plate to providing free solar illumination in accommodation which are otherwise very dark, even during daytime.

He was the only school student to present a paper in a conference where other presenters were usually M.Tech students from Delhi University and even IIT Delhi.

With the same project, Tejit Pabari also become a Regional Finalist (one of the top 100 to be selected from thousands of entries from all over the world) in the Google Science Fair 2016. He was unable to make it to the Global Finalists (top 16 in the whole world) for which the Grand Prize winner receives $50,000 in scholarship funding.

Nonetheless, being the Regional Finalist itself is a great achievement for him. He has done the school and the state proud.

CERN Visit

Another summer visit by the school was tp CERN, Geneva. The trip was a very good learning experience for the boys about the working of Large Hadron collider (LHC). It included the history of LHC, its working and the time line of the discovery of particles in LHC.

The visit included lectures by scientists on gravitational waves, Higgs Boson, the discovery of various particles and the medical use of the particle accelerator in radiotherapy, The trip included a treasure hunt, interaction with the scientists working at CERN and a visit to the United Nations office in Geneva.

NASA trip

A group of nine boys escorted by a master went on an educational trip to NASA during the summer break. The mission was to successfully launch a weather balloon and recover meteorological data during a five day learning programme at the Kennedy Space Center. They programmed the flight computer responsible for the data recovery from the balloon and finalized the date to launch the weather balloon. Apart from creating the parachute for the balloon, the boys also finalized the list of experiments to be conducted and designed programs fit for the purpose. The launch was successful and the balloon attained a height of ninety five thousand feet as indicated by the monitors.

They were permitted to explore the KSC campus, took a tour of the facility by bus and even dined with an astronaut! Other interactions included that with an esteemed scientist about space time dilation; they experienced simulations of earthquakes and hurricanes, watched an educational 3D film on the low earth orbit which featured live recordings from The International Space Station as well as another film on how NASA plans to accomplish a manned space flight to Mars. The boys also visited Orlando, Washington DC, Niagara Falls and New York where they visited all the important tourist landmarks of each location.

4th International Youth Conference, April 2016

The school launched this conference with the celebration of Earth Day and by welcoming pupils from Indonesia, Dubai and Jordan. There were twenty – eight schools involved and topics included climate change, tackling the water crisis and the problems with the coral reefs of the world.

His application has required him to be interviewed in London and prepare for an additional entrance examination paper which Imperial College requires all its candidates to sit and he has been given his offer. Imperial College is known globally for this specialist approach to the study of STEM subjects and Maths and the school is delighted for him

A First for Doon and India: Trip to the Antarctic, December 2015

Among many of the school trips and events that took place in the winter holidays was a first for the school in the shape of an adventure to the Antarctic which was a collaborative event organised by the Geography and Science departments. Four of the five houses were represented on this trip that saw boys head to Argentina and the group flew for Ushuaia which was the southernmost city of the world and checked into the Las Hayas Resort. The boys experienced the scenic and beautiful snow covered mountain city of Ushuaia. The trip also included a guided tour to Tierra del Fuego National Park was organized and the boys captured amazing views of the Beagle Channel, the mountain landscape, the glacial valley of Andes, while learning about the local flora, fauna and the old Indian settlements. The boys also went to see the last train station in the world. The group experienced the Errera Channel, which was a scenic, narrow waterway between Rongé Island and the Arctowski Peninsula on the mainland. Errera is home to Danco and Cuverville Islands. Landing at Danco Island saw a Gentoo penguin colony of 1,600 breeding pairs, Antarctic terns, blue-eyed shags, snowy sheathbills, kelp gulls, and brown skuas breed. Neko, features an Argentine refuge hut and a Gentoo penguin colony onshore. It is also one of the rare places in the Antarctic Peninsula area where one can come ashore on the Antarctic mainland. The group hiked up the hill to the penguin rookery for an amazing view of Andvord. The glacier across the tiny harbour is very active and creates very impressive but dangerous waves. The group did their camping activity at Neko Harbour and the boys helped other campers to build their tent house and also assisted the expedition team to build the common washroom facilities for the campers for which the boys were appreciated by the whole cruise staff. The boys also shared their social initiatives in India as part of their curriculum. The group spent the night at Antarctica at the camp. The scientists led by Dr. Craig Smith of the Fjordeco Project from the US Research Station. He took a session with the group to tell them about the researches happening at Antarctica. This was an outstanding opportunity for the boys to see this area of the globe for themselves.

NUS Summer Camp Report: Magic and Winning the Gold Medal!

‘The first lecture on “The Internet of Things” was great. The NUS event was for pupils aged 13-18. We were told about how almost everything is connected with internet directly or indirectly. Then we went for a gastronomy workshop which was in a manner of speaking, a cooking class but with the involvement of the science of it. We were divided into teams of four and made jelly from agar-agar powder and juice while the other half of the group made the same kind of jelly with the alginate process. We then had our lunch and continued our adventurous day by learning about an electron microscope its uses and its functioning. We went on to learn how to make a Homopolar Motor using only a magnetic cup, a copper wire, a battery and two extremely strong magnets. We went to a demo lab and learned a lot about static charge, electricity, Wimshurst machine, Faradays cage, super conductor and it magnetic levitation, why some soda cans float while others sink and friction.

The day started with a lecture on forensic science by NG Ngan Kee from the department of biological sciences. We got to know about CSI’s, fingerprints, fingerprint detection, latent blood detection and many other things. Then we remained in the lecture room for a 3D printing workshop. We gained a lot of knowledge on the application of 3D printing, its history, the various materials used in it, ways of 3D printing and it’s sustainability in the future. After an energizing lunch at subway we went to a book store in the spare time, which was followed by our arrival at The National Orchid Garden of Singapore, where there are a lot of varieties of orchids. There are also over 200 hybrids named after famous celebrities, people with an influential government post and Royal Family. Our day came to an end with a visit to Madame Tussaud’s on the Sentosa Island.

We kick started our day with an lecture from Professor Yap Yon Bing on probability where we learned that gambling never pays off however good the odds may seem to you or how lucrative the winnings seem. The Forensic Science workshop was great as it included a case study on OJ Simpson’s case and we were able to prove him guilty of the murder of his ex-wife and her boyfriend by DNA analysis. We had our lunch break and then went onto explore various advancements in technology in the science centre. We also saw a 3D and a 2D show in the science centre. We moved on to see the beautiful city of Singapore by visiting China Town, Merlion and finally the famous Orchid Street which is a highlight for anyone who is a shopping freak.

This, I personally felt was the best day, as we were explained about the uses of nanotechnology by Sow Chorng Haur. He told us about nano-science, nanoscale and how small it is. He also told us that if we cut gold into small pieces it changes color. Telling us about Richard Feynman’s lecture in 1959 “There is a lot of space at the bottom”, he moved onto some future goals for nanotechnology and biotechnology. We then had a Q/A session with the admissions head and he told us about the Universities perks and student life. Then we went on to see the National Museum of History where we saw various animal specimens and also some fossils including dinosaurs and a rock that is considered to be the meteorite that killed the dinosaurs. Then we had a kind of test on what we had seen and were shown 20 specimens and we had to decide based on our recently acquired knowledge what category they fell into. Then we were free do to do whatever we wanted. Some of us went to shop at china town and the rest stayed back to catch up on sleep, rest or pack.

There were groups of 4 and all the members were from different schools. The quiz was held and we were sent for lunch, when we came back we were anxious to know who had won and if it was one of our teams. Then it was announced that there was a tie breaking question for the 1st place between Team 4 (consisting of Devansh Mittal from Doon School) and Team 14. The teams were given a hint by the teacher taking the quiz that the tie breaker was based on the city tour and then the question was flashed, at first it seemed that nobody from both the teams knew the answer but then I, Devansh Mittal, from Team 4 answered the tie breaker question securing first place for my team and a name for our school. Victorious the team of ten boys from The Doon School returned to India.

This is India’s highest ranked IIT institution for Architecture and Lanka studied the sciences at ISC. The competition is huge for this course from across the country and the school is delighted for him. Lanka was heavily involved in Social Service and Round Square when he was at school. Lanka also attended a school in Singapore as part of the school’s Student Exchange Programme.

Praise in the Press: Stunning Ivy League Offers 2015

Doon School Class XII (SC) boy Pulkit Agarwal has made history there with a dazzling array of seven Ivy League placement offers, as well as from eight other US colleges and universities, including Stanford, the University of Chicago, Georgetown, Duke, Wesleyan and Northwestern. On 31st March, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, UPenn, Brown, Cornell and Dartmouth all offered Pulkit placements when they announced their 2015 Regular Decision results. This year worldwide applications to US colleges and universities rose dramatically yet again, so Pulkit had to beat off stiff competition for the limited number of places available to international students. A number of the fifteen colleges have also offered him generous scholarships for his four years of study in the United States.

Pulkit, who comes from a medical professional family, aims to major in Economics and Political Science. Dr. Peter McLaughlin, Headmaster of The Doon School, said: “We are delighted for Pulkit that he has pulled off this astonishing feat given the hyper-competitiveness of the admissions process to the elite universities of the world. The fact that so many top-ranked colleges have identified his tremendous potential, as we did when we admitted him to Doon, is a tribute to Pulkit’s focus and determination to use his talents to the full. A thorough gentleman, he was always a pleasure for our teachers and our specialist careers department to work with. As well as his academic commitment, Pulkit played an active part in the wider life of the school; he represented Doon in world debating competitions, in international and all-India Model United Nations conferences, was a School Prefect with many leadership responsibilities and had a great passion for playing cricket for his boarding house.”

Pulkit now faces the unenviable task of having to choose one from amongst this constellation of stellar universities by 1st May, but the school careers department is guiding him in making this difficult call.

Doon launches teacher training programme in India with IOE at the British High Commission

On 9th September 2014, Sir James Bevan, the British High Commissioner, welcomed distinguished guests from the top schools and colleges around India to celebrate and consolidate the partnership between The Doon School and the Institute of Education, University of London at The British Embassy in New Delhi. The Doon School has embarked on a unique international teacher education program offered by the Institute of Education, University of London. The strong connection with the UK has made the collaboration with the IOE an obvious one, and both institutions have a clear mission and identity rooted in best educational practice and values the research and evidence that supports and enhances that practice.

Speaking at the event, Sir James Bevan said ‘I am delighted to be hosting this event to celebrate the collaboration between what is widely regarded as the best boys’ school in India – the Doon School – and the world’s top education research center – the Institute of Education at the University of London.

There are several reasons why I am personally happy to be hosting this event. First, because teaching is special to me: I married a teacher, and before I became a diplomat I was a teacher myself. I was not a very good teacher, so it is very much to the benefit of students everywhere that I became a diplomat. But those few years teaching showed me both how tough it is to be a good teacher, and how rewarding it can be.

The second reason I’m delighted to be your host is because I know the Doon School well: Janet and I have had the pleasure of staying there, and I oversaw the visit there late last year of a much more important person than me, namely HRH the Duchess of Cornwall as part of her India tour with HRH Prince Charles. I know that HRH was hugely impressed by what she saw.

And the third reason is this: that of all the areas in which India and the UK are building partnership, education is in my view the most important of all, because of the deep bonds it builds between our peoples; because of the understanding of each other’s countries which it ensures; and because of the knowledge, prosperity and success it generates for both our countries.

I am delighted to see so many other guests here from some of the other first class educational institutions in India and the UK. We should celebrate their contributions and their partnerships too.

In this job I see a lot of universities, schools and colleges, and I know that there is often friendly rivalry between them. Perhaps the biggest rivalry in the UK is between our two oldest universities, Oxford and Cambridge – which I know several of you distinguished guests here this evening attended.

So I thought I would leave you with this story. A philosopher from Oxford and a scientist from Cambridge are being chased through the jungle by a hungry lion. As they are running, the Cambridge scientist takes out his notebook, makes some quick calculations, and says “there’s no point in us trying to outrun it, it’s going to catch us”. And the Oxford philosopher replies: “That’s OK. I’m not trying to run faster than the lion. I’m just trying to run faster than you”.

The Doon School is the first school outside of the UK to embark upon a whole school teacher training program in this way. Four years ago, the first cohort of teachers began the two year postgraduate course to Master’s level. The school’s commitment to India, through its mission which began in 1935, has not wained and the decision to invest in all of the teaching staff is a power indication of the reaffirming of that commitment. All members of the school’s teaching staff are expected to complete the iPGCE, a bespoke program built around the developmental needs of the school, but based on the London-based teacher education program currently offered at the IOE. It involves input and assessment by academic staff from the IOE at the school through regular school visits and work with teachers on aspects of their personal pedagogical practice supported by the study and application of best practice and relevant research into learning and teaching. As a consequence the iPGCE features a strong practitioner enquiry element and is underpinned in its design by the best available evidence on teaching and learning.

By January 2015, nearly half of the teaching staff at The Doon School will be registered on this two-year part-time professional development program and through the partnership with the Institute of Education faculty, The Doon School will have the opportunity to continue on to Master’s and Doctoral programs.

Doon presents their Brain Computer Interface project at tenth International Science Conference

The tenth International Science Conference was held at Tianjin Nankai High School China from October 13th -October 17th 2014. It is an international science exchange activity for high school students, which was initiated by Hwa Chong Institution in Singapore, St Paul’s co- educational College, Hong Kong China, Stella Matituna Girls High School, Taiwan China, The Hutchins School, Australia and Tianjin Nankai High School in 2005. The schools take turns to host the conference annually. In 2011,the Marco Foscarini School in Italy became a member school and hosted the 7th International Student Science Conference. The conference aims at providing high school students with an opportunity to exchange scientific research experiences and develop friendship.

The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Science-Creativity-Life’.
The following schools attended the conference included fellow HMC and all boys school Tonbridge School, UK and exchange partner Hutchens School, Australia who hosted the conference last year.

A group of six boys Rohan Hundra, Tejejit Pabari, Ragahav Kumar, Utkarsh Agarwal, Jagajit Singh and Prabh Sharan Singh Mamik attended the conference. A full programme saw the boys present the Brain Computer Interface.
The boys presented the Brain Computer Interface project which was widely appreciated by one and all. The congregation found it difficult to believe that 14 year olds could excel at making the mind boggling project on artificial telekinesis. They set up a direct communication pathway between the brain and the external device. The project when modified suitably can have indefinite applications from smart home controls, prosthetics controls, robot controls and even creating dream celebrities who could record their vivid dreams and convert them to movies and earn their livelihood by selling them. Our boys were asked probing and inquisitive queries which were answered confidently and comprehensively. The next conference will be held in Taiwan in 2015.

Success for Doscos at Hong Kong University’s Engineering Summer Residential Programme for the Elite

The engineering summer residential programme was a 5-day event designed for high-calibre students from Hong Kong, Mainland China and all over the world who wished to explore the field of engineering and understand the various engineering disciplines in a fun and challenging yet supportive environment. Students met world-renowned HKU professors, and got to know other talented students from across the globe, and acquire knowledge on the latest engineering research and innovations. Through insightful lectures, seminars and interesting laboratory exercises and hands-on projects, students explored the world of engineering that would enrich their summer life academically.

The school was invited to nominate 2 top-performing Grade 10/Grade 11 students to join “Engineering Summer Camp for the Elite”. HKU offered 4 scholarships to students especially from India to join this camp. This scholarship covered airfare (up to HK $3,000), accommodation and programme fee which was HK$4,600 including accommodation. The Doon School provided half of the students from India for this exciting opportunity.

The school nominated Sidharth Pahuja from Oberoi House and Smrithi Nair from Kashmir House after which HKU arranged Skype interviews with the nominated candidates. Both the students were offered scholarships to attend the programme. Smrithi Nair was the youngest participant and was awarded the winner of the Project competition – Development and Evaluation of a Simulation Model of an Airport Terminal.

Science Internships at CERN

Boys selected for science internships at CERN in Switzerland

In June, the Physics Department organized a one week internship at CERN (European Nuclear Research Organization) for boys in SC and S form. This is a remarkable opportunity for our boys as CERN is regarded to be the most reputed institute undertaking cutting-edge research on Particle Physics. The boys were able to visit and work in the advanced laboratories, attend specialized lectures and interact with many scientists and research fellows. The internship provides them a certificate of completion which will help build their professional resume.

The internship was organized in association with Dr. Archana Sharma, one of the senior most Indian scientist at CERN. Our boys were privileged to meet and talk with with the Director General Dr. Rolf Heuer. The school looks forward to taking even more boys next year.

Scientists work across multiple disciplines in Singapore, June 2014

Three keen scientists from Jaipur House: Arnav Gupta, Shaswat Gandhi and, Archit Barthwal went to this event at the National University of Singapore. One hundred and forty students from nine different countries (Sri Lanka, Malaysia, India, Dubai, Indonesia, China, Brunei, Philippines, Vietnam and Singapore) participated in this event. This programme was student oriented, specially designed to train and give hands on experience to students in multi-disciplinary sciences. This programme inculcated creativity, curiosity, and a passion for learning sciences. During the five days of this camp our boys were exposed to innovative teaching methods in sciences, demo labs in Chemistry, Physics and Biology, field trips, side scenes also includes lectures by very eminent professors from Singapore University. For me the highlight of this visit was learning through the study of Physics, Forensic Science, Biology and Food Technology. The boys saw the power of creative thinking and communication in the effective study of science.
