We were honoured to host our Chief Guest, Brigadier Sudhir Chamoli, YSM, VSM, Commander, 116 Infantry Brigade, an alumnus of NDA and IMA, commissioned into the 5th Battalion of the 5 Gorkha Rifles (FF), with over two decades of distinguished service. He assumed command of the Brigade in June 2025.

The Doon School hosted the BSAI Representatives’ Meet 2026 on 8–9 January in collaboration with the Boarding Schools’ Association of India, bringing together representatives from boarding schools across the country.

The meet opened with an address by Mr Kamal Ahuja, Deputy Headmaster, who underscored the importance of preserving the culture and values of boarding schools, drawing on his experience in shaping the evolving education landscape. This was followed by the keynote address by Ms Sangeeta Kain, Principal, Welham Boys’ School, who emphasised collective policy-building and shared best practices.

Mr Vinay Pandey, Director – Professional Development (BSAI) followed with an engaging ice-breaking session that fostered dialogue and connection. Ms Stuti Kuthiala, Dean Pastoral, then outlined the roles and responsibilities of BSAI representatives, emphasising student welfare and safeguarding.

A guided campus tour and visit to a boarding house offered participants insight into The Doon School’s facilities, rich heritage, and the vibrant house spirit that defines residential life.

The Doon School students, Rahul Oram and Vashisth Chowdhary, recently participated in the Round Square International Social Service Project hosted by Daly College at Panna National Park, near Khajuraho (Madhya Pradesh).

Immersed in meaningful community engagement, they supported eye-care and health camps, a women’s hygiene drive, and contributed hands-on to the construction of a mud library with an attached washroom for the local community. These initiatives were led by experienced doctors from the BAAVAN Trust, long-time collaborators with Daly College.

A team of nine Doscos, accompanied by Mr Manu Mehrotra and Mr Parvinder Kumar, successfully undertook an expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft), the highest peak in Africa.

The group set out on 30 November and returned on 11 December, taking the challenging Machame Route, one of the seven main routes to the summit.

After five days of demanding trekking, including the formidable Barranco Wall, the team undertook their final ascent, reaching the summit in the early hours of 8 December, with the first group arriving at 5:40 am.

The expedition team comprised:

Chandbagh’s seventy acres of old trees and green corridors provide ideal habitat for several nocturnal species. The NEST Society’s evening “owling” sessions help boys observe owls in their natural environment and understand their ecological importance. Six owl species have been recorded on campus: Barn Owl, Indian Scops Owl, Oriental Scops Owl, Brown Boobook, Spotted Owlet, and Asian Barred Owlet.

Recent Great Backyard Bird Counts confirm their presence, with the Asian Barred Owlet now a regular sight. However, declining sightings of the Brown Boobook and Indian Scops Owl remind us of the need to protect their habitat.

The species of owls remind us of our responsibility to safeguard the natural heritage we are privileged to share.

During the interactive segment, Aarav Patel from The Doon School asked, “What is that particular moment from the Axiom-4 mission that gave you a new perspective of life on Earth?”

In response, Gp Capt Shukla described two transformative moments: first, viewing India glimmering beneath him in the night sky, which filled him with immense pride and connection to his homeland; and second, looking back at Earth as a whole, evoking deep emotions of unity and humility at humanity’s smallness in the vastness of space.

The session concluded with a tribute video by CISCE and a personal message from the astronaut, inspiring Doscos to dream beyond boundaries and believe in the power of commitment and curiosity.

Vive l’amitié indo-française! The Doon School hosted nine students from Lycée Ozanam, Lille, as part of the third edition of the French Students’ Exchange Programme. Their journey began with an exploration of Delhi and Agra’s rich cultural heritage, followed by an immersive experience of Doon’s vibrant boarding life, from morning PT and learning Hindi language to attending classes, activities, and sports alongside their exchange partners.

This enriching exchange continues in December when our boys visit Lille to strengthen these bonds of friendship and learning.
